In this line, he has underlined the importance of public policies to help the agri-food sector to undertake entrepreneurship hand in hand with digitization. The commitment of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food to innovation translates into the promotion of the initiatives of the European Association for Innovation in terms of agricultural productivity and sustainability (AEI-Agri) -Spain is the second country in the European Union with a greater number of innovative projects–, as well as in the “great opportunity” that the Recovery Plan represents to undertake the modernization of the sector through new technologies. <figure class="image align-right"><img style="margin: 10px; float: right;" src="https://api.techpress.es/image/1666883174063-Mauricio-Garcia-de-Quevedo-Alibetopias-2022.jpg" width="200" height="250" /><figcaption> Mauricio Garcia de Quevedo</figcaption></figure> Next, Mauricio García de Quevedo , general director of FIAB, pointed out the need to commit to innovation, especially in the face of the difficult international situation that currently affects companies and consumers. “We have spent some time instilling the need for all companies to invest in innovation , to understand it as another resource within their organizations and begin to give it more prominence in their business strategies. In this sense, the role of Food For Life-Spain , the technological platform promoted by FIAB, has been valued, through the collaboration between its 155 partners from the public and private spheres, the transmission of research advances, scientists and technology in the food and beverage sector. Thus, in 2021, Food For Life-Spain has supported the start-up of more than 135 projects for an approximate value of 135 million euros. The conference was closed by M. Ángeles Ferrer , head of the Subdivision of Scientific-Technical Thematic Programs of the State Research Agency of the <a href="https://www.ciencia.gob.es/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ministry of Science and Innovation</a> , who in her speech has abounded in the need for ";the company and the generation of knowledge go hand in hand” to increase the competitiveness of the industrial fabric.<h2> Block 1: Technological startups</h2> The Alibetopías 2022 program has been divided into three thematic blocks . The first has been dedicated to startups and the <a href="https://techpress.es/noticias/premios-ingenia-startup-tienen-ganadores" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ingenia Startup Awards</a> have been delivered, which recognize innovation and business entrepreneurship. In the fourth edition of these awards, three prizes have been awarded. The first prize went to Deep Detection , which, as an alternative to the traditional technology used in production lines, seeks to help companies in the agri-food sector to maintain the quality and safety of their products through the use of a new generation of multispectral cameras more sensitive to the detection of foreign bodies. The second prize went to Oscillum , a company that develops and markets smart labels that indicate the freshness, quality and safety of the product through a colorimetric method. Developed in 100% biodegradable materials, this labeling system offers a tool to guarantee food safety and minimize damage to the environment, compatible with existing standards and regulations focused on packaging and fresh products. Innomy Biotech has obtained the third prize with an alternative food project that focuses on researching and developing mushroom-based products that serve as raw material for companies in the food sector, combining vegetable and fungal protein. <a href="https://techpress.es/noticias/innovacion-e-inversion-para-afrontar-la-crisis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Eduardo Cotillas</a> , director of R+D+i at FIAB, has highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship within the food and beverage sector . “On many occasions, startups provide us with projects that complement the work of companies with more experience in the sector. It is this climate of collaboration and transmission of knowledge that allows us to advance more quickly in the integration of innovation”, he commented. After the awards ceremony, a round table was held with the winning startups from previous editions, Ingredalia , Vottun , Nucaps and Baia Foods , moderated by Mariam Burdeos , CEO of Cleanity , a company specializing in hygiene and disinfection in the food and beverage industry. beverages.<h2> Block II: New technologies</h2> The second block has focused on the role of technology in the innovation process and six experts have participated in it. Francisco Adame and José Alcaide , CEO and CIO of Deuser , respectively, a comprehensive engineering company expert in digitization, have explained the advantages of digital twins and data analytics to optimize the production chain, and they have done so through three practical cases in which the use of these technologies at different levels stood out: machine, process and plant. Belén Blanco , director of the Food Area of the CARTIF Foundation , has detailed the research lines in which the technology center works: use of new protein sources and application of innovative technologies for the modification of the techno-functional properties of ingredients and obtaining new products feeding; healthy products through drying and preservation technologies; new applications to guarantee food quality and safety; and reformulation of products in nutritional quality and sustainability. Raquel Gómez , Head of National Projects Office of Cluster Food+I , has examined the cluster model as a catalyst for innovation . “Collaboration is a key piece for the promotion of open innovation. In an ecosystem with a high potential for innovation, meeting spaces and work dynamics are generated that favor the conception of disruptive ideas, driving companies and their management teams to new work dynamics”, said Gómez. Jaime Martín , founding partner of the consulting firm Lantern , has momentarily moved away from the technological approach to analyze the ";myths, fantasies and truths of the plant-based market ";, there is indeed an upward trend in the foodtech sector. Martín has used the study &#39;The Green Revolution&#39;, prepared by the consultancy itself, and data from international sources to describe the evolution of the plant-based market, which, while in Spain it continues to grow at a good pace, in others, such as the American, has slowed down in some segments. Roberto Castelo , GIEC representative and technical secretary of Platea, explained, for his part, the tools offered by the Circular Economy Interplatform Group (GIEC), made up of a total of 28 Spanish technology and innovation platforms, to promote efficient use of resources through public-private collaboration and R+D+i. The activity of the GIEC is aimed at exploiting the potential of innovation to promote the application of the circular economy concept in different strategic productive sectors.<h2> Block III: Business experiences</h2> The third and last block of the conference focused on research and innovation projects undertaken by companies and five experts took part in it: Ricardo Oteros , CEO of Supracafé ; Juanjo de la Cerda , corporate director of R&amp;D&amp;I of Grupo Nueva Pescanova ; Carlos Carricajo , Chief Research &amp; Development Officer of MAAVi Innovation Center ; Cristina Díaz Morillo , R&amp;D Project Manager at Biosearch Life , a Kerry company; and Jonás Lázaro-Mojica , from FoodDrinkEurope . The event has also hosted for another year the space dedicated to the exhibition of innovative products in which 11 companies have participated.
