The <a href="https://youtu.be/ZktT_im4Vzg" target="_blank" rel="noopener">III Startup Day</a> convened by the Packaging Innovation Hub has highlighted the role that technology startups are playing in the development of new <a href="https://techpress.es/noticias/smart-specialisation-platform-respaldara-food-packaging-sostenible" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sustainable packaging</a> that meets the <a href="https://techpress.es/noticias/cinco-retos-claves-decreto-envases-itene" target="_blank" rel="noopener">new Spanish and European regulatory requirements</a> and, also, with the new consumption habits that are driving change in the food and beverage industry. “A company does not have the ability to take the step towards digital transformation alone and without the help of external agents. This is where startups play a differential role. Startups are working with a large part of the business fabric, which gives them a competitive advantage”, explained José Ignacio Ruiz , Product Manager at GoHub. This dynamic entrepreneurial ecosystem of startups that generate <a href="https://techpress.es/noticias/packaging-impacta-industria-alimentaria-sostenibilidad" target="_blank" rel="noopener">innovative solutions</a> is impacting the market as an external figure to companies, ";but with a high potential to direct them towards digital transformation, in a context in which companies must adapt faster and faster to technological changes, keeping the organization and information of all the departments perfectly coordinated”, indicate the Packaging Innovation Hub, which has organized this latest Startup Day in collaboration with the Packaging and Packaging Innovation Cluster .<h2> Solutions for the sector</h2> The startups that have presented innovative solutions for the packaging sector have been GoHub Ventures , GuiA , Oscillum , Safe Load , MESbook , Fracttal , Prime Biopolymers , Feltwood , Oimo , Docuten and Linkener . <h4 style="float: right; width: 50%; margin-left: 28px; padding: 0 28px; border-left: 2px solid #0095dd; font-size: 19px;"> The development of new, more sustainable materials is the focus of the work of different startups. From Oimo they explained how brands, social awareness and new legislation are putting pressure on manufacturers</h4> The Oscillum company has developed a biotechnology to know the state of food in real state, which has reduced more than 25% of food waste in retail. ";Throwing away food generates more than 1,300 tons of waste in the world, which represents millions of euros in the food chain,"; warned Pablo Sosa , CEO of the startup during the session. At Feltwood they work to revalue food waste to produce fibers from vegetable by-products and reduce the use of plastic, explained Luzia Botella . And from Safe Load they seek solutions to improve safety in the transport of goods, during which 4% of transported products suffer damage. ";This means 50,000 million euros in 2021"; explained CEO Alberto Tellechea . Regarding the development of new, more sustainable materials, the startups Oimo and Prime Biopolymers presented their projects. Albert Marfà , CEO of Oimo, pointed out that ";brands, social awareness and new legislation are what are putting pressure on manufacturing companies to change their materials."; And from Prime Biopolymers, Analía Orts explained that despite the existing trend of working with biodegradable materials, there is a false belief that all those that come from plant sources are.<h2> Optimizing management</h2> During the day dedicated to startups, there was also time to present new tools that allow companies to advance and improve the management of information and processes. From GuiA , its CEO Carlos Carrasco detailed the advantages of a comprehensive analysis of the activity to establish how to improve. ";Data is the basis for knowing your processes and doing analytics to build a basis that makes you act."; MESbook has developed a real-time factory management system that turns data into information. Marta Cejudo , its Project Manager, insisted that any improvement has a direct impact on expenses and the investment is recovered in the first year. The Fracttal intelligent maintenance platform helps companies that have not yet started their digitization process to undertake and accelerate it. ";We include training programs to help customers as much as possible,"; said Abelardo Oropeza, their account manager. Another platform that was discussed at the conference was Docuten , which provides a digital signature to be able to digitize all invoices and administrative procedures, as explained by its commercial director, Emilio Álvarez-Miranda . Also for the energy sector, Sergio Ferrer , CEO of Linkener , presented his technology company specialized in energy efficiency solutions applicable to companies, industries and buildings.<h2> Activate startups</h2> During the III Startup Day, the open innovation program Activa Startups was also presented, which offers the possibility of obtaining financing to develop projects between SMEs in the sector and startups with an amount of up to 40,000 euros. The initiative promoted by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism , is framed in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and is financed through the Next Generation EU funds.
